Tone Questionaires

1. What is the author's attitude towards actions or events?

The author's attitude toward the actions and events are quite straightforward but has a deep meaning inside so we must ready carefully so we will not miss any detail.

2. Is the story humorous or tragic or frightening? Does the author want you to laugh or cry, to feel happy or sad, to experience anger or fear?
The story is tragic because they are solving about a crime where dead people are involved. the author probably wants us to feel sad and experience fear.

3. What is the author's attitude toward characters or the narrator? Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator?
The author's attitude toward characters is somehow mistrust in some character. like Leonard, he made Leonard look bad at the beginning of the story.

Symbolism Questionaires

1. What are some of the symbols in the story?

the symbols that could be found in the story is when Romaine killed Mrs Emily French because she thinks that her husband was cheating on her. this represent jealousy, and it leads to a crime where she is scared so she accuse her husband.
2. Are there any objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?
there are no particular objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning in this story.
3. Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?
the wife of Leonard, Romaine acts as a symbol in the story. she represent jealousy.
4. Do aspects of the story's setting seem symbolic? In what way?
the aspects of this story's setting seem symbolic in a way that can be expressed as "we sow what we reap"
5. Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?
there is only one symbol used throughout this story.

Imagery Questionaires

1. What scenes, moments, descriptive passages, phrases, or words stand out in your reading of the story?
while i was reading the story, this scenes stands out the most in my mind. it is when everything is revealed and the real culprit is romaine not leonard and everyone was shocked to know the truth.

2. Did a particular image make you feel happy, or frightened, or disturbed, or angry? Why?
the picture on the first page where they show leonard as a bad guy made me feel abit distrubed. because after i finished the story, i found out that he is not the one who killed Emily French so why they drew Leonard as a bad guy at first.

3. Which of your five senses did this image appeal to? What do you associate with this image, and why? What do you think the author wants you to feel about a certain image?
i think the picture of leonard at first made people think that he is the main culprit and the antagonist. and i also think that the author wants people to feel that he is the bad guy but as the story progress, he actually is not the culprit but it was his wife.

4. How do you think your reactions to the imagery in the story contribute to the overall meaning of the story?
 i think my reactions to the story made the overall meaning of this story very meaningful. because sometime, something we think is right might not be right and something we think is wrong might be right.

Point of View Questionaires

1. What point of view does the story use? Is the story told form a first-person perspective, in which the narrator is one of the characters in the story, and refers to himself or herself as "I"? Or is the story told from a third-person perspective, in which the narrator is not one of the characters in the story or may not participate in the events of the story?
the story is told in Mr. Mayherne point of view. he is the narrator and he judge between who is the real culprit between Leonard and Romaine

2. What are the advantages of the chosen point of view? Does it furnish any clues as to the purpose of the story?
 this point of view made the story very interesting because we dont know wether leonard or romaine is the real culprit and it gave us clue little by little until the whole story is revealed.

3. Is the narrator reliable or unreliable? Does he/she have a limited knowledge or understanding of characters and events in the story? Does the narrator know almost everything about one character or every character, including inner thoughts?
the narrator is unreliable. he got limited knowledge and understanding of the story, because he is a barrister and he may not know the inner thoughts of the suspects.

4. Does the author use point of view primarily to reveal or conceal? Does he ever unfairly withhold important information known to the focal character?
he uses the point of view primarily to reveal the truth. he fairly withhold important information know to the focal character.

character questionaires

1. who is/are the main character(s) in the story? what does the main character look like?
    Leonard Vole, the protagonist,  he looked like a man around 40 years old
    romaine, an antagonist who killed ms Emily French, she looked like a young lady that is jealously
    Mr. Mayherne- a barrister who help solve the crime., he was an old man that
 have solved many crime cases and he wears glasses.

2. describe the main character's situation  where does he/she live? does he/she live alone or with others? what does the main character do for a living, or is he. she dependent on others for support?
Leonard Vole- he was suspected that he killed ms Emily french. he lived with his wife romaine they are struggling for everyday food.
romaine- she was the one who killed Emily french and pretend she did not. she is depending her husband, Leonard for support.
mr. mayherne- he was solving that who is the real culprit. he is a barrister and is living alone.

3.what are some of the chief characteristics (personality traits) of the character? how are these characteristics revealed in the story? how does the main character interact with other characters? note the degree of complexity of his/her behavior, thought  and feelings; their appearances, their habits, mannerisms, speech, attitudes and values. what is the main character's attitude towards his/her life? is he /she happy or sad, content or discontented? why?
leonard- he is a good man that is optimistic and thought that if he didnt do anything wrong, he will not be accused.
romaine- she accused her husband of cheating on her so jealousy drove her to kill emily french and she was scared so she made everyone accuse her husband. as the story goes on, she was caught. her behavior is very complex and she is not happy about her life.
Mr. Mayherne- he is a person that believe in laws and thought that law can pass justice. he is a very complex man that always think of work because he wants to deliver the truth to everyone. he is happy about his life.

4.what sort of conflict is the character facing? how is this conflict revealed? is it resolved? if so, how?
Leonard- he is facing the accusation that he killed Emily french. but later, the judge found clue that he was just friend with Emily french so he was not guilty.
romaine- she pretends that she was not the one that killed Emily french but later, she was found guilty so she admit it and was caught.
Mr. Mayherne- he is facing the confusion that who is the culprit but later, he found clue that romaine was the one who killed Emily french not Leonard.

5.is any character a developing character? if so, is his change a large or a small one? is it a plausible cange for him? is he sufficiently motivated? is the change given sufficient time?\
romaine is a developing character. she changed to opposite, first she was a good woman but actually, she was the culprit.

Setting questionaires

1. Place: the geographical location of the story – a country or a city, a large city or a small village, indoors or outdoors, or both.
The story takes place in a small English city where Leonard Vole and his wife, Romaine, struggle to make ends meet. A wealthy woman named Emily French is murdered. Because Vole had spent much time with Miss French in the previous weeks, he is the prime suspect. 

2. Time: the period in history, the season of the year, the day of the month, and/or the hour of the day in which the events of the story occur.
This story didn't told any clue of what time, period, season of the year, day of month, or hour of the day.

3. Social environment: the location of characters and events in a particular society and/or a particular social class (lover, middle, upper class).
Leonard Vole and Romaine are lovers. They are around middle class. Miss Emily French is and upper class woman. Mr. Mayherne is a barrister so i considered him upper class.

The witness for the Prosecution (plot questionaires)

1.What is the story about?What are the main events in the story, and how are they related to each other?
   This story is about Leonard Vole who is arrested for the murder of a wealthy older widow, named Emily French.

2. Are the main events of the story arranged chronologically, or are they arranged in another way?
    The main events of the story is arranged chronologically from rising action to the climax.

3.How is the story narrated? are flashbacks, summaries, stories within the story used?
     the story is narrated by Leonard Vole's point of view and there are flashbacks and summaries.

4.Is the plot fast-paced or slow-paced?
   The plot is fast-paced

5.how do the thoughts, behaviors, and actions of characters move the plot forward?
   The other people thoughts of thinking Leonard Vole killed Emily French move the plot forward.

6.What are the conflicts in the plot? are they physical intellectual, morsal or emotional? are they resolved? how are they resolved? is the main conflict between good and evil sharply differentiated, or is it more subtle and complex?
    the conflicts is that Leonard Vole must defend himself against other people that think he killed emily french. the main conflict between good and evil is more subtle and complex.

7. What is the climax of the story and at what point in the story does the climax occur?
     the climax of the story is when everyone found about everything and everything is revealed.

8.does the plot have unity? are all the episodes relevant to the total meaning or effect of the story? Does each incident grow logically out of the preceding incident and lead naturally to the next?
   the plot have unity. and every episodes as a total meaning and has an effect to the story. and each incident grow logically out of the preceding incident and lead naturally to the next.

9. What use does the story make of chance and coincidence. Are these occurrences used to initiate, to complicate, or to resolve the story? How improbable are they?
    the coincidence in the story complicates the story. the probability is also high to happen.
